Horizontal Drilling Reinforces a Business Model for Success

Technology continues to enhance the economics of exploration with the introduction of Horizontal Drilling. Although, more expensive than vertically drilled wells, the initial flow rates and ultimate recovery of horizontal wells can significantly outperform vertical wells. Horizontal drilling, along with modifications and improvements to frac design, has been increasing ultimate reserve recovery. In 2003-2004, it became evident that horizontal drilling could change the future of exploration.

The Barnett Shale is one of the hottest natural gas plays in the country with permits and activity increasing every year. As the gas phase of the Newark, East Barnett Shale field continues to expand; technology serves to help increase the total recovery.
